Frequently Asked Questions

General
What is Glowix?

Glowix is a lightweight macOS menu bar app that prevents your display from dimming or sleeping automatically. Toggle it on with one click — no System Settings required.

Is Glowix free?

Yes! The free tier includes the Keep Awake toggle, auto-off timer, and battery protection. Pro features cost $2.99 as a one-time purchase — no subscriptions, ever.

What's included in the free tier?
  • Keep Awake toggle — on/off from the menu bar instantly
  • Auto-off timer — 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m, 30m, 1h, 2h, or Never
  • Battery protection — auto-disables below 20%
What does Pro include?
  • App Rules — auto-activate when Zoom, Keynote, Figma, or any app runs
  • Work Hours Schedule — set active days and hours (e.g., Mon–Fri 9–6)
  • Presentation Mode — auto-enables when any fullscreen app is detected
  • Smart Battery — custom threshold (5–95%), auto-activate on charger, charge notifications
  • Custom Icons — Sun, Eye, Bolt, or Flame in the menu bar
Features & Usage
How do I use the Keep Awake toggle?

Click the Glowix icon in your menu bar to toggle keep awake on or off. The icon changes to indicate whether it's active.

How does the auto-off timer work?

Select a duration from the menu (5m to 2h, or Never) and Glowix automatically turns off keep awake after that period.

How do App Rules work?

A Pro feature that watches for specific apps running on your Mac. When a matched app launches (e.g., Zoom), Glowix automatically enables keep awake. When the app quits, it disables.

What is Presentation Mode?

A Pro feature that detects any fullscreen app and automatically enables keep awake. Ideal for slideshows and demos.

Will Glowix drain my battery?

The free version auto-disables below 20% battery. Pro's Smart Battery feature lets you set a custom threshold (5–95%) and auto-activate on charger.

Does Glowix work with external displays?

Yes — Glowix prevents sleep across all connected displays using macOS system APIs.

Pro & Purchases
How do I upgrade to Pro?

Click the Glowix icon in the menu bar → Select "Upgrade to Pro" → Complete the in-app purchase through Apple's App Store.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit your Apple Account → Media & Purchases → Purchase History to request a refund.

Does Pro work across multiple Macs?

Yes — Pro is linked to your Apple ID. Tap "Restore Purchases" in Glowix on any Mac signed into the same Apple ID to unlock Pro at no extra cost.

Will I lose Pro after a macOS update?

No. Your Pro purchase is stored with your Apple ID and remains active after any macOS update.

Troubleshooting
Glowix doesn't appear in my menu bar
  1. Go to System Settings → General → Login Items → Allow in the Background and ensure Glowix is listed
  2. Relaunch Glowix from Spotlight or Applications
  3. Reinstall from the App Store if still missing
Keep Awake isn't working / screen still sleeps
  1. Verify Glowix is toggled ON in the menu bar
  2. Grant Accessibility permission: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → enable Glowix
  3. Restart your Mac after granting permissions
  4. Check that Battery Protection hasn't disabled it due to low battery
App Rules aren't triggering
  1. Confirm Pro is active
  2. Check the app name matches exactly (e.g., "Zoom" not "zoom")
  3. Make sure Accessibility permission is granted
What macOS versions are supported?

Glowix supports macOS 10.15 (Catalina) and later. To check: Apple menu → About This Mac.

Privacy & Security
Does Glowix collect any data?

No. Glowix does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Everything runs locally on your device. Read our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.

Does Glowix have analytics or crash reporting?

No — zero analytics, no crash reporting SDK, no telemetry. The app is completely offline except for App Store purchase validation.

Why does Glowix need Accessibility permission?

The App Rules feature needs Accessibility permission to detect which apps are running on your Mac locally. No data is ever transmitted.
