FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I quit all apps?

Click the Clean Quit icon in your menu bar and choose Quit All Apps…, or press ⌘⇧Q from anywhere on your Mac.

Why does macOS ask “Clean Quit wants to control [App]”?

macOS requires your permission the first time Clean Quit quits each app. Once you allow it, you won’t be asked again for that app. You can review these permissions in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation.

How do I protect an app so it’s never quit?

Open the menu bar icon, choose Manage Whitelist…, then click Add App… or Add Running… to add apps you want to keep safe.

Can I quit a single app without closing everything?

Yes — open the menu, find the app in the Running Apps list, and click the on the right side of its row.

How do I make Clean Quit launch when I log in?

Open Settings… from the menu and toggle Launch at login.

Why doesn’t Clean Quit appear in the Dock?

Clean Quit is a menu bar utility by design — it lives in the top-right corner of your screen and has no Dock presence to keep things minimal.

Is Clean Quit safe to use with sandboxed apps?

Yes. Clean Quit is itself a sandboxed Mac App Store app. It uses a system-approved automation path to send quit events, so it works reliably with all apps.
