Frequently Asked Questions
OwnMind doesn't appear to be capturing anything. What's wrong?

OwnMind requires Accessibility permission to read your active windows and URLs. Without it, capturing is disabled.

Open System Settings on your Mac
Go to Privacy & Security โ†’ Accessibility
Find OwnMind in the list and toggle it on
Restart OwnMind and click Resume in the menu bar
The popover doesn't appear when I'm in a full-screen app

Make sure you're running the latest version of OwnMind. Versions 1.1 and later use a floating panel that appears over full-screen apps. Update via the Mac App Store.

Where is my data stored?

All data is stored locally in an encrypted database at:

~/Library/Application Support/OwnMind/

It is encrypted with AES-256-GCM and never leaves your Mac. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Howdo I pause or stop OwnMind from capturing?

Click the OwnMind icon in your menu bar and tap Pause. Capturing will stop immediately. The icon will show a red dot while paused. Tap Resume to start again.

To stop permanently, you can also quit OwnMind using the power button in the menu bar popover.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. To cancel:

Open System Settings
Click your Apple ID at the top
Go to Subscriptions
Find OwnMind and tap Cancel Subscription
Howdo I export or delete my data?

Open OwnMind โ†’ click Open OwnMind in the menu bar popover โ†’ go to Settings. From there you can export your entire history (JSON, CSV, MarKdown) or delete all data permanently.

OwnMind is using a lot of CPU. What should I do?

OwnMind is designed to be lightweight. High CPU usage is unusual. Try:

Quit and relaunch OwnMind
Check for and install any pending Mac App Store updates
If the issue persists, email us with your macOS version and OwnMind version
Does OwnMind work on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4)?

Yes โ€” OwnMind is built as a native Universal binary and runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

What macOS version is required?

OwnMind requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. AI features (summaries and tags) require macOS 15 Sequoia or later with Apple Intelligence enabled.
